Huntington Memorial Hospital
Pasadena, CA
Overview
Huntington Memorial Hospital (HMH) is a non-profit, community-based medical center, which provides acute medical care and community services to the greater Pasadena area in Southern California. The 625-bed hospital is a world class destination for the treatment of epilepsy, prostate cancer, robotic minimally invasive surgery, and bariatric surgery. Exante360 provided HMH with ICT design and consulting services while acting as the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) (former-OSHPD) Architect of Record (AOR).
Exante360 Contribution
The scope of work for the technology room project at HMH entailed the design and HCAI (formerly OSHPD) permit of new network racks, overhead cable tray, redundant electrical feeds from a new UPS, in-row coolers and associated plumbing, a fire suppression system, and fiber optic connectivity to other technology distribution rooms.
Benefit to the Client
This project established a compliant infrastructure for the operation of critical and life safety technology systems throughout the hospital. The scope consisted of structural, electrical, mechanical engineering, and cost estimating, all of which Exante360 oversaw and coordinated. Our team overcame many engineering and regulatory challenges to make this project successful in the end.
Operations Perspective
Exante360 assumed the Prime DPOR role with structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing that were providing services as subconsultants. The HCAI (formerly OSHPD) special seismic certification requirement for internal communication servers, routers, and switches was a driving factor for the technology infrastructure and rack design. Exante360 subject matter experts presented multiple strategies directly to the Owner and HCAI to balance operational needs and regulatory compliance. The end result was an HCAI approved Alternate Method of Compliance (AMC) which has since contributed to updated policy and enforcement that supports, rather than prohibits, healthcare IT Best Practices.
