Overview

The $600 million San Diego County Operations Center is located in Kearny Mesa and consists of a 1.3 million square foot office campus on a 38-acre site. The phased development of the campus over an eleven-year period allowed the County to maintain operations during construction.

Exante360 Contribution

Exante360 has been involved in several SDCOC projects over the years. The two most notable projects are the San Diego Crime Laboratory (SDCL) and the Sheriff Technology and Information Center (STIC). Exante360 provided design and engineering services for multiple security systems for these buildings, including interview room and holding cell security, and vault and freezer security.

Benefit to the Client

The Crime Lab project was unique due to the high level of security requirements for a building with this kind of usage. In addition to the building itself, there are several separate entities that are housed in the building. All maintained separate networks and systems that could not communicate across partitioned networks. Several advanced integrations and unique workarounds were researched, and implemented in coordination with manufacturers to be able to provide all departments with an extremely high level of security while maintaining the separations necessary based on Owner requirements.

Operations Perspective

The Sheriff Technology and Information Center project included building and perimeter security that consisted of access control and video monitoring for automatic entry gates and pedestrian access gates. Similar to the Crime Lab, the building is used by multiple segmented departments that do not share information. This created the unique challenge of providing all departments with access to a fully functioning single building security system that was robust enough to be segmented. The center was built to replace outdated separate buildings. Close attention and consideration was given to the building and its surroundings due to the adjacent Emergency 911 services center and County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), as well as integration requirements with those services.
