UC San Diego Health System
San Diego, CA
Overview
UC San Diego Health is one of five academic medical centers within the 10-campus University of California system. Collectively known as UC Health, these medical centers comprise the fourth largest health care delivery system in California and train nearly 50 percent of the state’s medical students and medical residents. UCSDHS is currently ranked the #1 health system in San Diego and holds top national rankings in 12 of 16 adult medical and surgical specialties. Abiding by the California Health & Safety Code, which calls for healthcare organizations to conduct an annual assessment of their Security Management Plan, UCSDHS has contracted Exante360 on multiple occasions to perform their assessment.
Exante360 Contribution
Exante360 was contracted to perform an assessment at both San Diego and La Jolla campuses. Important aspects of the assessments included evaluations for compliance with regards to the Security Department policies and procedures, Security Management Plans, relevant staff training, and emergency operations documentation. Additionally, Exante360 conducted stakeholder interviews to gain input from hospital staff. Each year’s assessment culminates in a report that helps guide the management of the Security Department for the following year. In December 2020, UCSDHS contracted with Exante360 on an additional project providing security master planning and consulting services for the massive and prestigious Hillcrest Phase One Redevelopment project.
Benefit to the Client
E360 engagement includes providing effective security recommendations that detect, delay, and deter prospective perpetrators, but that are aesthetically pleasing to ensure the inviting, healing nature of the facility. The likely outcome of the assessments will include recommendations that span all aspects of physical security including guard operations and processes, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, and security technology such as weapon screening, video cameras, access control, emergency communication, etc. This engagement puts Exante360 in a central role, working for the campus architect, the security department, various UCSDHS C-level stakeholders, as well as the rest of the project team.
Operations Perspective
Exante360 leveraged our extensive experience with healthcare, security and with the campus itself to achieve the desired outcome for the client. It is very rewarding to be able to participate in this exciting project that will allow UCSDHS to continue providing top tier healthcare services to the County well into the future.
